Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a hot topic right now. We discussed this topic in class not only as future educators, but also how AI is used in our daily lives. Personally, I’m quite intrigued and excited at the prospect of incorporating AI into my life and profession, as I see it as a tool to be used to improve the product rather than something that will replace us. I finished my undergrad before ChatGPT and AI were really on the scene so I feel fortunate to have both an understanding of work with and without AI. I use ChatGPT as a tool for assisting my learning in this program, but I ensure that my use is ethical and responsible throughout the process.

Here are some of my favourite AI tools we talked about, plus one I forgot to bring up in class!

Gentype by Google Labs is a really neat way to generate your own AI alphabet. As you can see above, you can request AI to create your own alphabet out of whatever you can think of. I used the prompt “Honeycomb, blue background, 3D” and this is what was produced.

Magic School AI is one website I really want to spend some time on once I finish the education program. I feel like there is a lot of potential here, but I have yet to fully dive into it yet. Check out this webinar they have on their YouTube channel:

The first 3 minutes is introductions, but this is where the host begins to go through what the website offers.

One final AI tool I’m excited to use as a teacher is Notebook LM by Google. One of the features I’m most excited about is their Audio Overview, which turns any source into a podcast. This is one I plan to use for one of my final inquiry posts, but I have yet to create it yet so stay tuned! (I’ll link it here when finished)

Overall, I think there’s a ton to be excited about as teachers and I believe it comes down to ensuring you are using it ethically and giving credit where credit is due. AI doesn’t need to be scary, but it will take time to get used to it, especially as updates and changes roll out.

P.S. Check out Marketvide if you are interested in AI generated content on daily financial news! This is a venture my fiancée has been working on and it’s just launched. (Note that there is no investment or financial recommendations, more a daily overview of individual public company & their performance on the market)
